Verify against the official source
Check every citation against an official source before relying on it. The text here is derived from data published by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel and reprocessed for display; errors can be introduced in parsing, formatting, or presentation. The official United States Code is published at uscode.house.gov, and official federal materials are also available from GovInfo. This site is not an official government resource.
Currency and completeness
Content reflects a particular release point of the United States Code — shown on the home page — and a particular amendment date for the court rules. It may not reflect:
- statutes or rule amendments enacted or adopted after that date;
- provisions amended, repealed, or held invalid since; or
- effective dates, applicability provisions, and transition rules that determine which version of a provision governs a given matter.
Notes, editorial notes, source credits, and related material may be abridged, reorganized, or omitted relative to the official source. The absence of a note here does not mean none exists.
Scope
The site covers federal statutes in the United States Code and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Appellate Procedure, and Evidence, together with certain congressional report references. It does not cover state or local law, local court rules, regulations, case law, or any other authority.
No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, currency, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Availability is not guaranteed, and the site may change or be withdrawn at any time.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site’s operator will not be liable for any damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the site — including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, and including any loss arising from reliance on content that is inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date.

The underlying legal texts are edicts of government and are in the public domain. Nothing here restricts your use of them: copy, quote, and redistribute them freely. The site’s own code, styling, and arrangement are separate from those texts.
You are welcome to read, print, cite, and share pages from the site. Automated access should be reasonable and should not degrade the site for others. If you want the underlying law in bulk, please take it from the official source rather than crawling this site — the Office of the Law Revision Counsel publishes the complete United States Code in XML at uscode.house.gov/download, which is both more authoritative and easier to work with.

Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the site or these terms will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the District of Columbia.
